On June 2, 1992, Governor Weicker signed House Bill 5793 which was passed by the legislature on May 5, 1992. The bill, designed to prohibit Insurers from steering work to particular repair shops, became effective October 1, 1992.

The Connecticut Anti-Steering Bill #5793 provides that...

• It is your right to choose the repair shop where your vehicle will be repaired, this is Connecticut State Law!
• You are not required to go to the insurance company recommended shop or drive-in claim center.
• You are not required to get any estimates.
• You don't have to settle for after-market parts.
